FAQ
Q: What makes VocaConnect different from other intervention handbooks or programs?
A: VocaConnect is different because it’s designed to be realistic, functional, and easy to use. Instead of generic worksheets or one-size-fits-all activities, it focuses on real-life, occupation-based skills that children and adolescents can carry over into everyday routines. Every activity comes with clear goals, warm-ups, materials, and options for adapting to different ability levels, so you can meet kids exactly where they are.
I also know how much time and energy therapists and teachers spend planning, so VocaConnect is built to reduce prep time and take the stress out of session planning. It’s not just about helping kids grow--it’s about supporting the professionals who work with them every day, giving you tools that are practical, evidence-based, and ready to go.
Q: Does this program need to be implemented in a school?
A: While implementing VocaConnect in a school setting is recommended, the activities can be adapted for use in any setting, including home, outpatient clinics, daycare programs, private pediatric practices, or even ABA clinics. The key requirement is that the activities align with the individual’s goals and are feasible to implement in the chosen environment.
Q: What comes with my order when I purchase VocaConnect?
A: Your purchase includes the complete VocaConnect packet—40+ ready-to-use activities organized by age group in an interactive PDF for easy navigation. The Table of Contents includes a color key if therapists want to pick and choose activities based on the area of focus. Each activity features warm-ups, targeted skills, materials needed, and step-by-step guidance to keep sessions functional and engaging.
You’ll also receive a separate materials handout with editable templates and ready-to-print items, making prep time simple and stress-free. Plus, 7-day-a-week support is included (visit my "Contact Me" page), so you’ll always have help when you need it.
Q: If I am a therapist and want to purchase VocaConnect, do I need to follow it as a structured program?
A: No. VocaConnect can be used as a full, structured program, with warm-ups and main activities implemented on a weekly schedule. Alternatively, it can serve simply as a resource guide—therapists may use activities for inspiration, select individual parts or warm-ups, or occasionally implement an activity.
Q: What if I want to purchase and implement VocaConnect as a full, structured program, but I am not an OT or SLP (e.g., SpEd teachers, school counselors, psychologists, etc.)?
A: VocaConnect activities are primarily designed around skills commonly addressed by OTs and SLPs. These professionals typically have weekly sessions with students and can structure activities to align with individualized goals. However, if you are not an OT or SLP, you may still implement the program—provided that the activities you select align with your scope of practice and support the goals you are addressing with your students. It is strongly recommended to collaborate with an OT or SLP. Doing so ensures you understand any therapy-related concepts in the program, receive guidance on adapting, upgrading, or downgrading activities as needed, and coordinate ways to reinforce skills within the classroom. For example, a special education teacher can reinforce concepts from a VocaConnect OT or SLP session by repeating or extending activities, which supports skill generalization and helps students practice through repetition.
Q: Can COTAs, SLPAs, or graduate students implement the program?
A: Yes. Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) and Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs) can implement activities, carry out interventions, and collect data in alignment with their scope of practice. Students may also implement the program, but only under the supervision of a licensed OT or SLP to ensure that fieldwork requirements and professional standards are met.
Q: How are therapists expected to collect before/after data, and how often should it be collected?
A: Collecting before-and-after data is highly encouraged, as it provides valuable insight into both program effectiveness and individual student growth. Data can be collected at program entry and exit to evaluate overall outcomes, and/or documented quarterly through progress reports to track advancement toward IEP goals. To support this process, therapists are encouraged to use the pre- and post-data collection handout included in the VocaConnect Materials packet, which provides a consistent framework for monitoring progress across students. This flexible approach enables therapists to seamlessly integrate data collection into sessions, capturing meaningful evidence of growth and improvement.
Q: Can multiple staff members co-facilitate activities?
A: Co-facilitation is permissible as long as it is deemed to be an effective and practical method for implementing the activities. Co-facilitation may actually be a preferred method for groups with two or more students or for students with higher needs.
